2013 Summer Trip. Days 1-3. Fla. to Northern KY.

Monday morning we hit the road right on schedule as we we rolling out of our street at 5:30 AM.   Jan and I have a tradition that on the first day of a road trip, we have to eat breakfast at a Waffle House.   After two hours on the road the road we were seated enjoying fluffy ham and cheese oimlets and hashbrowns, scattered smothered and covered.   OMG is that a great breakfast.

Our first overnight was in High Falls SP in Georgia,  between Macon and Atlanta.    Jan's sister, brother in law and niece met us there and we had a cookout at the campsite.    Has anyone ever described to you the level of humidity in mid Georgia during the summer time?    I will be honest it is way worse than Florida, which can be down right oppressive.   Lots of cold  sweet tea , good food and good company made it enjoyable.    It was my niece's 15 th  bithday so we gave gifts and enjoyed the short time together.

I expected a little trickle of falls in Georgia but was I ever wrong.  They have been having lots of rain and the falls were very swollen.

After an other early morning hike to the falls we got on the road and headed for Cumbeland Falls SP in Kentucky.   Our checkin to the campsite was a made difficult as our assigned site was blocked by broken car awaiting a tow truck.   We did the best we could getting the camper set.   It is a good thing we did not wait as when the tow truck finally arrived almost two hours later a violent thunderstorm hit.   We were happy for the makeshift position of our camp.   We did however find three new leaks that will need to be dealt with.   I understand now that all campers leak at sometime or another.

In the morning we had to hand wheel the trailer around so we could back up and hook up.   It is a beautiful park but the campsite layouts are really not the the best for our rig.

Cumberland Falls are described as the Niagra Falls of the south.   Although not as big, the falls are huge by southern standards and with the heavy rains were thundering.

Three hours up the road we have pulled in to the state park that I did not name in the original itinerary.....

Now , ironically, the park is located on Beaver Road in northern KY. It is near the small town of Beaverlick KY.   The humor is too funny to be made up.   The park is named after large fossilized bones found here of mammoths and mastadons that were originally drawn here by a salt lick.......see, there ids nothing dirty about the name, all you sick minds out there LOL.

it is a pretty campground with nice amenities and simple back in sites.

Ok, it is time for dinner and some wine.   Tomorrow we are headed to my cousin Mark's outside Detroit.   We will spend three nights with them and then off to points north.

Check back in a few days for what life on  the road has dealt us.
